Step 2 Pre-listening
(1) Review the way of reading years. Ask students to read the these number of years.
1876 eighteen seventy-six
1885 eighteen eighty-five
1927 nineteen twenty-seven
1971 nineteen seventy-one
(2) Look at the things in the pictures. Work in pairs and guess which one was invented first, then number them 1~5 and check the answer.
Step 3 While-listening
(1) Listen to the tape and check your answers in 1a, and then match the inventions with the years. After finished, please make conversation with partner as follows:
A: Can you guess which one of the them was invented first?
B: I think the … was invented first.
A: Which one of them was invented last?
B: Well, I think the … was invented last.
A: I think the TV was invented before the car.
B: Well, I think the TV was invented after the car.
(2) Then play the tape again, and ask students to read after the record.
Step 4 Post-listening
1)Make a dialogue with your desk mate by using the information in 1b.
Example: ----When was the telephone invented?
-----I think it was invented in 1876.
2)Make conversations by using the information provided in the following chart.
